Felix Bird — Greater Good

Pōneke avant alternative outfit Felix Bird return with their new single, Greater Good, offering the first glimpse into the band's next chapter. Following the release of their debut album Haircut and recent single Cigarette Slander, the four-piece have continued to build momentum through headline shows, student radio support and a growing reputation within Wellington's independent music scene. Written primarily by Felix Bird and bassist Ben Bonetti, Greater Good is the first song recorded collaboratively by the full band, blending jangly guitars, DIY textures and understated lyricism while signalling a more collective approach to songwriting.

The Cellars — Still Instilled

Te Matau-a-Māui indie folk duo The Cellars make their debut with Still Instilled, introducing a sound built around intimate lyricism, rich vocal harmonies and understated piano and guitar arrangements. Formed by Isabella Aarons and Sinead Hegarty after reconnecting in 2020, the pair have spent the past few years performing across Hawke's Bay, sharing stages with Reb Fountain and The Bats while appearing at festivals including Outfield and Sanctuary Sounds. Recorded and produced by Toby Lloyd at Tiny Triumph Recordings in Wellington, Still Instilled reflects on the challenges of authentic self-expression, exploring the lingering feelings of guilt and expectation shaped by the duo's shared Catholic school upbringing.

Nathan Fry — DAMAGE

Devonport singer-songwriter Nathan Fry returns with his second original release of the year, DAMAGE. Produced by Nic Manders and co-written with Spencer Coyle, the rock-pop track pairs energetic production with honest songwriting as it explores moving forward after being let down by someone close. Following hundreds of live performances across the country, Fry continues to build momentum with upcoming support slots on Borderline's New Zealand tour, taking DAMAGE to audiences in Tauranga and Rotorua.

Tīpare — Star Scars

Tīpare marks Matariki with her powerful new waiata, Star Scars, a deeply personal reflection on whakapapa, aroha, healing and hope. Inspired by the concept of tuku iho and written from a place of vulnerability, the song explores forgiveness, emotional renewal and the beauty found in both our strength and our scars. Released alongside its original demo, Star Scars captures Tīpare's raw storytelling while honouring the themes of connection, remembrance and new beginnings that sit at the heart of Matariki.

Nivaryn Dane — Spellbound

Originally from Tāmaki Makaurau and now based in Taihape, Nivaryn Dane returns with Spellbound, a new single that sees the songwriter step into heavier sonic territory. Best known for acoustic folk releases such as The Rope, Dane's latest track embraces a hazy alternative rock sound while continuing the honest, straightforward songwriting that defines his music. Written and recorded with friends, Spellbound marks an exciting new direction for the artist as he continues to evolve his sound.

Killian Ordono, xevain — Luv Letter

Emerging New Zealand rapper Killian Ordono shines a spotlight on Luv Letter, one of the standout tracks from his new album Kill The Sound!. Following the release of Sound earlier this year, Ordono continues to refine his rap sound while independently writing, recording, producing, mixing and mastering his own music. Featuring xevain, Luv Letter showcases a more melodic and personal side of the project, reflecting the creative confidence that defines Kill The Sound! as Ordono continues to establish himself as an artist.

ORPHEU5 — Atlantis/Execution

Ōtepoti artist ORPHEU5 (Dragon Winikoff) returns with two new releases, Atlantis and Execution, continuing to expand the project's fusion of EDM and rock. Following the introspective atmosphere of Amends, the contrasting pair showcases two sides of ORPHEU5's evolving sound, with Atlantis embracing a softer, moodier approach while Execution delivers a heavier, anthemic burst of chaotic energy. Drawing inspiration from artists including Imagine Dragons and Hyper, Winikoff once again takes a hands-on approach, creating the cover artwork in Blender and recording all of the live bass, guitar and vocal performances himself.

Angel of the Evening — Heroin Blue Light

Wānaka artist Angel of the Evening (Isis-Joy) introduces her debut single, Heroin Blue Light, blending psychedelic blues, dream pop and alternative indie into an atmospheric and deeply immersive sound. After gaining national recognition through the Play It Strange songwriting competition, which led to a recording opportunity at Roundhead Studios, Angel of the Evening has continued to shape a distinctive musical identity. Heroin Blue Light captures that vision through its sparse, cinematic arrangement and haunting vocal performance, offering a striking first glimpse into the project's soulful and ethereal world.

Sunset Tsunami — Chillaxin' With Cherry

Sydney-based British and Kiwi duo Sunset Tsunami return with Chillaxin' With Cherry, the first single from their forthcoming second album. Following the electronic dub foundations of their debut album DUB TILL DAWN, the pair embrace a warmer blend of neo-soul, downtempo and classic funk while retaining the groove-driven sound that defines the project. Built around a simple sample and bassline, Chillaxin' With Cherry captures moments of quiet reflection and nostalgia, offering an inviting first look at the duo's evolving sonic direction.
